How Effective Is Pemetrexed?
Sold under the brand name Alimta, pemetrexed is a chemotherapy drug frequently used to treat patients suffering from mesothelioma. In fact, pemetrexed is the only medicine approved by the Food and Drug Administration to treat mesothelioma.
Researchers at the University of Western Australia recently published their investigation of the effectiveness of pemetrexed in the Asia Pacific Journal of Clinical Oncology. They found that previous studies had overstated the effectiveness of pemetrexed. According to their findings, patients taking pemetrexed lived on average less than one year after the start of pemetrexed-based chemotherapy, a shorter survival rate than what a 2002 University of Chicago study found in its assessment of phase III clinical trials.
