Asbestos Stops Restaurant Renovation in Illinois
The Illinois Department of Public Health put a freeze on an entrepreneur in Galesburg, Illinois, when it affixed a large, red cease-and-desist order on the front door of the soon-to-open restaurant. According to IDPH, the Department took this dramatic and immediate step because the building’s owner was in violation of the State of Illinois Commercial and Public Building Asbestos Abatement Act. Indications appear that the owner did not use an approved asbestos contractor for the renovations and that asbestos had been disturbed in the building, threatening the health of workers, customers and the public.
