CMS Launches Pilot Program for Asbestos Victims
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced recently that asbestos patients in Montana would be eligible for a number of additional health benefits courtesy of a new pilot program designed to combat the effects of asbestos exposure. These health services include home-care services, special medical equipment, complimentary travel to care facilities, nutritional supplements, counseling, and specialty prescription drugs.
Unfortunately for most Americans, this pilot program is aimed at a highly targeted population: residents of Lincoln and Flathead County with asbestos-related diseases acquired in the Libby area (i.e. victims of W.R. Grace & Co.). Regardless, the pilot program is a big step forward in the care of asbestos victims. If successful, the program could inspire a wider effort to improve treatment of asbestos-related diseases.
