Are You Training for the Miles for Meso 5K This Fall?
Alton, Illinois, isn't just a suburb of St. Louis. It's the hometown of jazz great Miles Davis, the sight of the final Lincoln-Douglas debate, and the birthplace of Robert Wadlow, the world's tallest man. Most important, this September Alton will also host the third annual Miles for Meso 5K Race & 2K Walk.
Offering more than $6,000 in award money for top finishers, the Miles for Meso Race and Walk aims to raise public awareness to the challenges of mesothelioma and the need for increased research. Proceeds from Miles for Meso will go to the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation. Since the first race in 2009, Miles for Meso has raised roughly $75,000 for mesothelioma research. And the idea is spreading: Miles for Meso races in Texas, California, and Massachusetts are currently under negotiations!
Mesothelioma is ravaging many American communities. Every year an estimated 3,000 patients die from mesothelioma and asbestos-related diseases. The vast majority of these patients are victims of circumstance: workers and their loved ones who were exposed to asbestos products during their working lives. They didn't know the risks they faced or that they could do anything to protect themselves!
