President Obama Signs Act Providing Compensation to 9/11 Asbestos Victims

The President recently signed into law H.R. 847, the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act that provides medical care and compensation to rescue workers and others harmed by the asbestos-filled, toxic dust released by the fall of the World Trade Center. The bill provides $4.3 billion for the needs of surviving first responders in several ways, including re-opening the September 11 Victims’ Compensation Fund for five years to provide fair compensation for economic losses and harm.

This legislation is an important milestone in the ongoing attempt to appropriately value the personal, emotional and financial loss experienced by asbestos victims. If you’re suffering from the effects of asbestos exposure and considering how you should respond, it may be time to consult with the asbestos and mesothelioma experts at Fears | Nachawati.
