One in Four Mesothelioma Cases Unreported
The latest finding of the scientific journal, Environmental Health Perspectives (EHP), concluded recently that mesothelioma is significantly underreported. Of the 56 countries reviewed in the study, mesothelioma was the cause of death for 174,300 individuals in the survey period, 1994 to 2008. Moreover, the study finds that an additional 38,900 cases may have occurred in countries not reporting statistics.
These findings may have a profound impact upon U.S. companies and American asbestos victims. Did you know that every American asbestos producer has declared bankruptcy because of its asbestos-related tort liability? With tens of thousands of additional litigants, the size of damage awards and liability trusts may shrink, significantly reducing the compensation available to U.S. victims!
What should you do if you think you or a family member has been exposed to asbestos? You need to seek medical and legal advice immediately. As EHP’s findings suggest, the field of asbestos litigation is changing rapidly and in profound ways. You need to take action in response.
