Asbestos Closes Yet Another School
Students at Fruit Ridge Elementary in Sacramento, California, are paying the price of asbestos use as they now face a longer commute and a new routine mid-way through the school year. What’s more, many may have been exposed to asbestos and could face debilitating and life-threatening diseases, including asbestosis and mesothelioma.
Last week, workers in the school’s attic encountered disturbed asbestos, leading to laboratory tests and, ultimately, the closing of the school for the remainder of the school year. Incredibly, this isn’t the first Sacramento area school that has been closed this year in response to safety concerns. Harmon Johnson Elementary was also closed in January.
Thousands of America’s schools contain dangerous amounts of deteriorating asbestos. School closings have become more common, however, plenty of schools remain open, stuffed with a carcinogen that could potentially harm your child!
