Wisconsin Hotel Owners Agree to Pay $80,000 in Asbestos Fees

A February 2008 inspection by the City of Milwaukee’s Department of Neighborhood Services determined that Amana Hospitality LLC, the general contractor on a hotel remodeling project, instructed unlicensed and untrained workers to remove and handle ceiling titles that contained dangerous quantities of fibrous asbestos. As a result of Amana’s negligence, these employees now live under the specter that their exposure to asbestos could lead to mesothelioma, a lethal and incurable cancer. Amana has agreed to pay $80,000 to the City for violating city ordinance.

Do you or a loved one work in the construction industry? If so, be careful! Without proper training and safety precautions, your employer should not ask you to handle asbestos-containing materials like insulation, ceiling panels and floor tiles. In fact, requiring you to handle unsafe asbestos products may violate municipal, state or federal law. To find out more about asbestos law, contact the experts at Fears | Nachawati.
