U.S. Government Investigates Firefighters’ Exposure to Asbestos
The National Institute for Occupation Safety and Health (NIOSH) announced this week that it will work with the United States Fire Administration to analyze whether firefighters' increased exposure to smoke and other chemicals increases their risk for cancer. When asbestos-filled buildings burn, asbestos fibers are aerosolized. As a result, the incidence of asbestos exposure for firefighters is expected to be much more frequent than that of the average citizen.
